There’s no denying that Sister Wives has captured the hearts of reality tv fans. Many of us (me included) would say it’s our guilty pleasure. As a Sister Wives super fan, I’m here to tell you that there are a few surprising facts that are rarely mentioned on the show that will blow your mind. Here are my top 4 surprising facts about Sister Wives.
4 – Kody Courted Someone Before Janelle
Kody had a failed courtship before becoming serious with Janelle. In their memoir, Becoming Sister Wives, it was confirmed that there was a woman who was in the running to be Kody’s second wife before Janelle. Apparently, she was young, cute, and Christine felt threatened by her because at the time she liked Kody. Ultimately, the courtship didn’t work out for reasons that aren’t clear. This could have actually been Kody’s 5th wife!
That’s right! In their memoir Becoming Sister Wives, Sarcasm reported that Janelle felt overwhelmed. After a bad fight with Meri, she left the family for two years! After the two-year split, Kody convinced Janelle to move to Utah, where he had found a new job and a new home. Presumably, this was the Lehi house, where Janelle got very nice living quarters.
2 – Kody Wasn’t Attracted to Christine
In a tell-all interview during earlier seasons of Sister Wives, Kody admitted that he was not attracted to Christine early on. In fact, he told the interviewer that this was an understatement. He had seen Christine eating chili cheese fries in the back of his car through his rearview mirror and he almost reconsidered their courtship at that point. Ouch! This interview is hard to watch.
1 – Janelle Married Meri’s Brother
This one’s always a shocker. It’s well documented that Janelle was married to Meri’s brother Adam Barber from 1988 to 1990. Then, Janelle met Kody at a family gathering and felt an immediate connection with him. I’m not sure if she met Kody while being married or if she met him afterward. Kody and Janelle married in 1993 and the rest is history!
